Gluten Free and More Magazine (Formerly Living Without Magazine)  July/Aug 2014. Does the gluten-free diet help migraine headache sufferers? This article highlights this common condition and the use of the gluten-free diet as a treatment for migraine headaches.

Healthline News- July 2014. An article discussing a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine which evaluated how a child’s genes may influence their risk of developing celiac disease in the future. Although the information doesn’t change how celiac disease is diagnosed today-it is very important. These findings may pave the way for for a new tool to predict the risk of developing celiac disease. More studies and longer follow up are needed but this is an exciting starting point!

Wall Street Journal June 2014. In this video segment, Dr. Burkhart was asked to discuss the nutritional value of the gluten-free diet and whether or not it is a “healthy” choice for people without celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

Celiac Disease Foundation National Expo-June 2104. Dr. Burkhart gave a presentation titled ” The Gluten Conundrum-Separating Fact from Fiction” to help clarify what is truth and what is” internet lore” regarding information relating to the gluten-free diet.

Celiac Corner March 2014. A website dedicated to topics surrounding celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity requested Dr. Burkhart wrote an article regarding SIBO         (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and its relationship to digestive disorders such as IBS, celiac disease and gluten sensitivity

Dr. Burkhart wrote on the medical management of continued weight loss after starting a gluten free diet. Level 1 covers the basic treatment of this situation. Level 2 delves a bit deeper into this issue. Level 3 explains on a more thorough level, possible causes and remedies if continued weight loss should occur after starting a gluten-free diet. San Francisco Chronicle- Dr. Burkhart was interviewed in July 2013 by the San Francisco Chronicle in regards to a gluten sensitivity/celiac disease and new research addressing testing patients already on  a gluten free diet. – Dr. Burkhart was interviewed by The Gourmet Retailer Magazine in an article focusing on the future of the gluten and allergen friendly food market. “I met Dr. Burkhart five years ago when our older children were in preschool together. My one year old son was sick, and had been sick with antibiotic resistant ear infections, skin rashes, horrible stomach aches, serious constipation and blood in his stool. He was sliding down the growth chart. Our pediatrician had him on a large dose of Miralax to improve his symptoms and antibiotics to address the ear infections. It wasn’t working. Dr. Burkhart saw that we were in distress and immediately stepped up to help, as a friend, mother and doctor. We discussed his health, and more specifically his diet. After lengthy conversations and minimal blood work we finally had an accurate picture. Dr. Burkhart set up a plan which finally solved his issues. Thru managing his specific dietary needs he grew, gained strength, reduced his digestive and skin issues and is now on the top of the growth chart. Dr. Burkhart’s guidance changed my son’s development, happiness and health. We don’t know what we would have done without her. She is a compassionate, calm, kind person, a patient and thorough educator, good listener and an exceptional doctor.”

Stone Brewing company Stone Brewing - Napa opened recently in Napa in an historic building adjacent to the river. A great venue to enjoy life! The gluten free menu options are coming (per the manager ) but please visit and inquire about GF options.
